First Private Spaceflight

In 1982, Space Services Inc. (the first privately owned rocket company), was successfully able to launch a rocket and have it reach space. The rocket was named, “Conestoga I”. Conestoga I, consisted of Minuteman missiles and boosters. The Conestoga I also carried a payload, and 40 gallons of water during its first launch. The first launch took place in Matagorda Island, Texas. During the first launch, the payload was successfully ejected at approximately 194 miles (height-wise). It had launched a total of three times, before it inevitably shut down.  This was due to lack of actual business.
